La Residencia is famed for its collection of modern art and for its link with local artists who regularly exhibit their paintings in the hotel’s Tafona Art Gallery. This year, for the first time, the hotel has an Artist in Residence.
The hotel is thrilled to launch this new venture hand in hand with the prominent British artist, Alan Hydes. Alan, who owns a second home in Deià belongs to the local artist community here and has kindly offered to share his knowledge with La Residencia.
Alan first established himself as a talented portrait artist, with work archived in the National Portrait Gallery. High-profile sitters have included Sir Edward Heath, Dame Thora Hird, Lord Harewood, Jilly Cooper, Ricky Tomlinson and Sir Bernard Ingham.
His growing reputation led to him being given his own network television series on portraiture Painting the Stars (ITV1) which, along with his book Celebrity Portraits, brought his work to a nationwide audience. In recent years Hydes has produced documentaries on Hockney, Hockney Paints the Stage, Hydes on Hockney and Yorkshire Landscapes. He interviewed Hockney on location at Salts Mill in Saltaire, West Yorkshire.
